A Washington State native, I’m a copywriter (http://kristinemsmith.biz) and the author of six books. Actor DeForest Kelley (Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in the original STAR TREK series) was my mentor in real life and actually launched my writing career back in (oh my gosh!) 1969. I’ve written two books about him. You can find them at Amazon and Authorhouse on-line. (Type “Kristine M Smith” into the search field and they’ll pop up for you.)
I’m a lifelong animal lover and advocate (but not a vegetarian, although I do avoid consuming animals that are cruelly raised 99.9% of the time, and feel guilty during the .1% of the time when I eat bacon). I’ve worked for or volunteered with the Animal Protection Institute of America, Tippi Hedren’s Shambala Preserve (a.k.a. the Roar Foundation in Acton, California), PAWS in Lynnwood, WA, and a veterinarian. I’m a trained animal behaviorist and share my life with two rescued geriatric cats (littermate brothers Ashley and Archie), two goats (Laverne and Shirley) and a mixed-breed dog (Buffy; think Family Affair, not vampires) who’s fully grown and quarter of the size of the cats.
I worked in Hollywood at studios, including Warner Bros., Sony, Disney and Culver, for 12 1/2 years (1992-2003) and temped for Steven Seagal, Clint Eastwood, and other notables while floating at WB and other studios for a time before landing a permanent position at WB in the MIS department.
I’m a Christian (who embraces all people of goodwill in every culture and prays for all the rest) and co-teach creative writing with Yvonne Olson every three weeks in Tacoma, WA. If you’re local and want to learn to write better, y’all come!
That’s just about it — me in a nutshell.
